William "Bill" Baxter Wheeler, 81 years old of Lorain, Ohio died peacefully on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at the home of his loving daughter and son-in-law Marcy and Carl Fuchs in Lagrange. Mr. Wheeler was born in Newport, Vermont on March 13, 1929 and lived in Lorain for most of his life. He was employed as an Inspector for Ford Motor and he served as a UAW Steward for 9 years. He was a co-owner with his brother of King Reid Entertainment that traveled throughout the New England states. He also managed the ARS Club in Lorain for 8 years. He served his country in the Military Police Corps. of The United States Army from 1947-1953. He received the Army of Occupation (Germany) Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Purple Heart, and the National Defense Medal. He also served in the Vermont National Guard 172D Infantry.
Mr. Wheeler enjoyed sharing Army stories, playing PS3 war video games, and watching movies. He loved fishing in Vermont also shrimp and red snapper fishing in Florida. He loved spending time with his family, holiday traditions and cookouts. He was known and will be remembered as a gentle man. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. He was lovingly named "Poppie" by his granddaughters and great-granddaughters. He loved his dogs, Bubbles and Puppy. He is a life member of the American Legion in Newport Vermont and a life member of the VFW Post 1079 in Elyria. He is survived by his life partner of 55 years, Louis Sabo of Lorain; one daughter, Marcia (Carl) Fuchs of Lagrange; two granddaughters, Jessica (Mark) Blair; of Elyria and Jillian (Matthew) Nobles of Bay Village; four great-granddaughters, Brittany Zickefoose, Hayley, Julia, and Emily Blair. Nephews, Tony Maynard of Burlington, VT and Jimmy Maynard of Oakhills, FL., nieces Betty Vaugh and Patti Johnston both of New Smyrna Beach, FL. Mr. Wheeler was preceded in death by his parents, William B. and Mildred (nee: Riches) Wheeler; four brothers, Gordon, Howard, David and John Wheeler; and one sister Mable Maynard. There will be no visitation. A private family memorial with full military honors will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 417 Tomahawk Drive, Maumee, Ohio and VFW Post 1079, 500 S. Abbe Rd., Elyria, Ohio, VFW Post 1079 or the charity of the donor's choice.

So sorry to hear about "poppy" I know how much he meant to you all. Maybe he is playing cards and having cold drinks with Grandpa Fuchs & Grandma too. Thoughts and prayers to the family.

I am so sorry to hear about your father.
I will always remember our childhood with he and Louie. He always tired to be scary but you had him wrapped around your finger!
There is nothing anyone can say now to make you feel better but remember you are loved and in our thoughts!
