Loren Willis Meschke, 83 years old of Elyria, Ohio died on Monday, April 5, 2010 at The Abbewood at the Bridge following a long illness.
Mr. Meschke was born on April 13, 1926 in Elyria and lived here all of his life. He graduated from Elyria High School with the class of 1944 and served with the United States Navy during World War II where he was a “Seabee” in the Pacific. He was a Lieutenant in the Elyria City Fire Department, retiring on January 31, 1981 after 34 years of service. Mr. Meschke was a member of Community United Methodist Church in Elyria, the King Solomon #50, El-Rey Grotto Lodge, the American Legion, Post 12, and a life member of the VFW Post 1079. He was an avid fisherman and boater. He enjoyed woodworking and often built furniture for his family. Mr. Meschke also enjoyed cooking and baking bread. He loved his grandkids. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, JoAnne Elizabeth (nee Meyer); two daughters, Dr. Debra J. Meschke of Charleston, West Virginia and Lorel Ann (Steven) Pappas of Lakewood, Ohio; four grandchildren, Timothy, Daniel, Jayna, and Steven M. Pappas, all of Lakewood. One nephew, Larry Meschke of Avon also survives. Mr. Meschke was preceded in death by three brothers, Ellis, Addison, and Floyd Meschke all of Elyria; and his parents, Gustave Herman and Anna Christina (nee Ehrke) Meschke. Friends will be received at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria, Ohio 44035 on Thursday, April 8, 2010 from 6-8 P.M. Funeral services will be on Friday, April 9, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. in the funeral home with Chuck Boals, Chaplain of the Elyria Fire Department, officiating. Burial will be in Ridgehill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, Ohio where the V.F.W. Post 1079 will conduct full military honors.

Jo and Girls-I was sad to read where Loren had passed away. Terri my niece, told me she had seen him at life care and had talked to you when you visited. I have known Loren since second grade at Allen School 73 years ago. I am sorry I cannot make visitation. Steps for me are bad and ramps are even worse.
