H. Virginia Schlather (nee Bilskey), 90 years old of Elyria, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Life Care Center of Elyria following a long illness.
Virginia was born January 28, 1920 in Olmsted Falls, Ohio and has lived in Elyria since 1948. She was a 1937 graduate of Olmsted Falls High School. Following graduation she was the school secretary for the Olmsted Falls High School from 1937 to 1944. She was a homemaker and served as bookkeeper for Schlather Insurance, her husband’s insurance agency, for over 50 years.
Virginia was a very active member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Elyria. She was member of the Altar & Rosary Society, Legion of Mary, and the St. Jude Seniors. She was very well known for her pies that she baked for East Elyria Kiwanis and St. Jude. Virginia in her own quiet, but determined, way juggled the often outsized challenges of family, community and her God without ever losing her faith.
Virginia is survived by thirteen children, Mary Rita (Sister Mary Seton, SND), of Cleveland, Robert (Karen Hammer) of Cooperstown, NY, Margaret Ann (Sister Mary Margaret Ann, SND) of Arlington, Virginia, Jeanne Marie (Lawrence) Frey of Elyria, William (Rebecca Lorensky) of Oberlin, Raymond (M. Kathleen Aljoe) of Ithaca, NY, Paul (Karen Boron) of Medina, Donald (Darlene McGill) of Trumansburg, NY, Roseann Schlather (Brown)of Diamond, Ohio, David (Brooke Adkins) of Strongsville, Kenneth (Donna Ramil) of Freeville, NY, Patrick (JoAnn Wright) of Westford, Massachusetts, and Mary Agnes (Gary Hammel) of Millstadt, Illinois; 25 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. One sister Rosemary Bilskey of LaGrange, Ohio also survives.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Bernie on May 21, 2010, one granddaughter Erin Schlather, one sister Margaret Bilskey, two brothers Robert Bilskey and Richard Bilskey, and by her parents Martin and Agnes Bilskey (nee Schoenherr).
Friends will be received in the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria, Ohio on Wednesday June 30, 2010 from 4-8 P.M. The St. Jude Altar & Rosary Society will recite the rosary at 3:30 P.M. Closing prayers will be held Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 9:30 A.M. in the funeral home followed by mass at 10:00 A.M. at St. Jude Catholic Church, 590 Poplar Street, Elyria, Ohio with the Reverend Father Francis P. Kosem officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s of the Falls Cemetery in Olmsted Falls, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Schlather Bilskey Trust Scholarship Fund, PO Box 307, Cooperstown, New York 13326 or to the St. Jude Education Endowment Fund.

Dave (and family) . We are so sorry to hear of the passing of your mom. She was a grand women who ALWAYS made you feel welcome at the Schlather home in her quiet ways. While she will be missed by many, she will join Bernie and others in the Schlather family in a better place. As always, we will keep you and all of the Schlathers in our thoughts and prayers.
