Virginia Spigiel

Virginia S. Spigiel (Nee Lobato), 81, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Center Ridge Nursing home in North Ridgeville after a short illness. She was born February 10, 1930 in Peabody, Massachusetts. She has made her home in Elyria since 1959.

Virginia was a member of St. Jude Church, Elyria. She was active in the Boy Scouts of America receiving the Silver Beaver Award. She was a member and past president of the Elyria American Legion Unit #12 Auxiliary. She was member of the Elyria Democratic Women’s Club and the AARP. She was a member of the Crestwood PTA and was past president of the Northwood PTA. For over 25 years she assisted her husband Len with security at Elyria High School sporting events. She loved watching Elyria High School, Berea High School, and the United States Air Force Academy sporting events.

She is survived by three sons Dennis L. (Glendine) Spigiel of Avon, Ohio; David L. (Mary Ellis) Spigiel of Lorain, Ohio; and Dean L. Spigiel of Elyria; one daughter Denise L. Spigiel of Elyria; three grandchildren Lt. Leonard Joseph Spigiel II, USAF of Little Rock, Arkansas, Sgt. Ali Marie Spigiel, U.S. Army of Tacoma, Washington, Brady K. Spigiel of Berea, one step grandchild Joshua Ellis of Chicago, Ill.; one sister Rose Marie Hollandsworth of Riverview, Mich.; several nieces and nephews and her beloved grand dog Sidney.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years Leonard Joseph on July 4, 1999, by her parents Leo and Rose Lobato (nee Silva) and by a sister Irene Asciutto.

Friends will be received in the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland St. on Sunday March 27, 2011 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Funeral services will be Monday, March 28, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. The Elyria American Legion Auxiliary Unit #12 Past Presidents will officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions in Viginia’s memory may be made to the Berea Athletic Booster, 165 East Bagley Rd, Berea, Ohio 44017.

Dennis,David,Dean,& Denise, you know our love is with you during your time of sorrow. We will miss your mom so much but in our hearts we all know they are playing cards with my mom and dad and enjoying every minute of it. Our love and support is with you.
